In its latest meeting held this afternoon, the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) agreed to select the proposal submitted by Port Med Formentera as the most advantageous bid in the public tender for the management and operation of moorings, commercial premises and parking spaces for the marina of the Port of La Savina, under an administrative concession.

The concession will last for 16 years and involve a committed investment of 16,660,542.87 euros (excluding VAT) intended for the comprehensive upgrade of these facilities, the improvement of port services and the execution of initiatives that will reinforce the integration of the marina with its urban and natural environment.

The concession area comprises 28,000 square meters of water surface, distributed between the Levante and Poniente basins and the Commercial dock, as well as 13,800 square meters of land surface, where the moorings, the dry dock, commercial and service buildings, for fuel supply facilities and different areas intended for nautical-sports activity are located.

The proposal submitted by Port Med Formentera obtained the best overall rating of the procedure, standing out for the quality of its functional, urban and environmental approach, offering a solution that modernises the facilities and improves the users and visitor experience.

One of the most highly-valued aspects was the urban development project of the exterior spaces, which defines in great detail the landscape integration of the marina through new gardens, urban fixtures and building solutions that foster the continuity between the port spaces and the seafront promenade.

Regarding the configuration of the water surface, the proposal optimises the use of the concession area and expands the marina's capacity to cater to different types of recreational boating.

The project also includes the construction of a new building with more open and versatile commercial spaces, highlighting the design of its terraces and covered areas on the ground floor, as well as the construction of an underground parking lot with 90 spaces, which will contribute to improving mobility and the services available in the port.

Commitment to sustainability and biodiversity

The bid features a wide range of initiatives aimed at strengthening the marina's environmental sustainability and the conservation of the marine environment.

Among the planned measures are the installation of artificial micro-reefs developed by Ocean Ecostructures, the use of ECOncrete technology in the new mooring bollards to promote biodiversity, and the development of the Bioremed Savina project, in collaboration with Mediterranean Algae, with the aim of contributing to reducing eutrophication of the port waters.

The project also includes the installation of charging points for personal mobility vehicles and a 2 x 75 kW super-fast charging station for electric vehicles, reinforcing the commitment to more sustainable mobility.

With this initiative, the APB continues to move forward in its strategy of modernising the port infrastructures of the Balearic Islands, opting for more efficient, sustainable facilities integrated into their environment, capable of offering a higher quality service to both marina users and the citizens of Formentera.
