The APB promotes the renovation of the Punta del Gas restaurant with a sustainable, accessible project that is integrated into the environment

In its most recent meeting, the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) has selected the proposal presented by the Puro Group for the management and operation, under an administrative concession, of the bar-café-restaurant of Punta del Gas, in the port of Palma.
The concession, with a maximum duration of 14 years, will allow for the complete transformation of this space, located in a privileged enclave on the Palma seafront, through an investment of 1,755,000 euros. The project aims to renew the available restaurant services and create a more accessible, sustainable and landscape-integrated environment for both citizens and visitors.
The main initiatives include the construction of a new building to replace the current one, which will incorporate a basement floor intended to concentrate all the restaurant's logistics and support infrastructure, such as storage areas, cold store and technical rooms. This solution will free up the spaces currently occupied by these services on the upper floors, optimising the building's layout and improving the user experience. In addition, the new building will have new accessible public restrooms with direct access from the seafront promenade, reinforcing the accessibility and convenience of the ensemble.
The transformation of the exterior areas is one of the main focuses of the project. The design prioritises extensive landscape integration, with vegetation serving as the unifying element of the spaces. To achieve this, new landscaped and shaded areas will be created by planting trees, especially mulberry trees, and installing lightweight pergolas, while the terrace will be rearranged with natural materials, wooden and rope demarcations, and new flowerbeds that will contribute to improving the overall appearance.
In addition, the water, sanitation, electricity, air conditioning and fire protection facilities will be completely renovated, and a photovoltaic installation for energy self-consumption will be incorporated.
The works will also extend to the immediate surroundings of the establishment, with the repair of the structural elements of the breakwater and the cliffs, the reconstruction of the existing platform and the improvement of access from the seafront promenade. In this area, a new accessible ramp for people with reduced mobility will be built, the existing stairs will be remodelled, a tiered seating area will be created, and a new pergola and bicycle parking area will be installed.
The design also incorporates architectural solutions aimed at promoting its integration into the environment, through the use of wood finishes, neutral colours and elements that reduce the visual impact of the technical installations. All of this is complemented by a landscaping proposal that will reinforce the open, green and scenic nature of this area of the port.
The selection of this bid constitutes a preliminary step to the final granting of the administrative concession, which will be formalised once the procedures foreseen in port legislation are completed.
