The Port Authority of the Balearic Islands backs the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact concerning human rights, labour, the environment and the fight against corruption and seeks to support and implement them in its sphere of influence.
The Port Authority of the Balearic Islands is also committed to and engaged in implementing the Ten Principles of the Global Compact in its strategy and operations. It likewise encourages the businesses and individuals it interacts with to get involved in the Compact by complying with the key requirements in submitting a Communication on Engagement setting out the actions it has taken every two years since it joined the Global Compact.
As the body managing the five public ports on the Balearic Islands, which report to the Spanish Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda through the State-owned Ports Body, the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands will in turn work to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) endorsed by the Spanish Government.
Principles of the Global Compact
Human Rights
- Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and
- Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.
Labour
- Principle 3: Businesses should uphold freedom of association and effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
- Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;
- Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and
- Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
Environment
- Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
- Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and
- Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally-friendly technologies.
Anti–corruption
- Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Following the adoption in September 2015 by the General Assembly of the United Nations of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands as a member of the United Nations Global Compact will strive to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals:

- Goal 12. Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
- Goal 13. Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
- Goal 14. Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
- Goal 15. Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.
- Goal 16. Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
- Goal 17. Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalise the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.
