The Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) has completed the rehabilitation of the surrounding area of Cala el Fonduco, in the port of Mahón. The action combines the improvement of the quay in terms of operations and safety with the urban transformation of the port space to make it more user-friendly, accessible and sustainable.

The main aim of the project was to guarantee the durability and stability of the lower platform of the quay, reinforcing the safety and operational conditions of the direct mooring management service provided by the APB in this area. These improvements make it possible to offer a more efficient and reliable service to vessel users, as well as ensuring the long-term conservation of a key infrastructure of the port of Mahón and the municipality of Es Castell.

In addition to the structural consolidation, the intervention included the redevelopment of the adjacent road, with a new mixed paving of cobblestones, suitable for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and the installation of street furniture that improves the functionality and quality of the public space. In this way, the Fonduco becomes a more orderly and accessible environment, enhancing the connection between the port and the city.

During the execution of the works, Es Castell Town Council took the opportunity to replace the drinking water and sewerage pipes. This coordination between authorities has made it possible to optimise resources and contribute to the sustainability and efficiency of urban services, avoiding future damage to the renovated road.

The works contract, awarded to the Moll Cala Fonduco joint venture with a budget of 498,306.16 euros, is part of the APB's strategy of recovering and improving port spaces to promote greater port-city integration and enhance the coexistence between marine activity and public use.
